We also have a pilot, an equestrian, a master gardener, a gourmet chef, a competitive marksman, a figure skater and a snowboarder. We have an amazing team, one that knows how to work hard and always remembers to have a good time while getting the work done.

Tom Mayberry

Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer

Tom Mayberry retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years as an artillery officer, including serving our country during Operation Iraqi Freedom. From his years as a Marine and his time spent acquiring an MBA along the way, he brings a common-sense approach to business leadership with a strong emphasis on achieving powerful, on-budget results for our clients. Tom firmly believes the happiness and well-being of our team members is crucial to helping our clients realize their goals. He now spends his off-time volunteering with, and serving as a trainer for, the Stafford County Search and Rescue. Once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout.

Deborah Mayberry

Founder and Board Member

Deborah Mayberry founded The Bowen Group in 2005 with a singular commitment to provide services and develop programs that empower individuals and strengthen communities. With a master's degree and 28 years of professional experience, she provides executive oversight of research-based readiness and resiliency programs and services, while sharing her passion, expertise and enthusiasm. Debbie has built a solid career anticipating and catering to her customer’s needs. During her off time, she also caters to the needs of her 9-pound super dog, Lucy.

Ray Babbie

President

As the president of The Bowen Group, Ray Babbie has the great pleasure of leading a fine-tuned machine with a singular focus—improving the lives of people and organizations. He is responsible for company growth, oversight of daily operations and executing the strategic direction of the company. Ray retired from the Marine Corps and has more than 19 years of operations, program management and business development experience. He also likes to kayak, hike, run and work on cars when he has some time to spare. Tom Baker

Vice President of Operations

Tom Baker is a seasoned professional with extensive management, contracting and business development experience. As The Bowen Group's vice president of operations, he manages project execution, develops project plans, identifies and pursues business opportunities and oversees contracts administration. His extensive experience in managing program costs, schedules and technical performance of government contracts only pales to his golfing ability out on the links.

Lawrence Gaines

Vice President of Business Management and Finance

Lawrence Gaines retired from the military after 26 years of service including high-visibility assignments at Headquarters Marine Corps, Marine Corps Systems Command and the Marine Corps’ Wounded Warrior Regiment. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a Master of Science degree in Information Technology Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, he oversees The Bowen Group’s contract management, contract execution and administration, program management, and financial management and pricing (when he’s not preparing for his future on the Senior PGA tour).

Mary Craig

Vice President of Digital Strategies and Communication

Armed with 25 years of experience in leadership and military community programs, Mary Craig is known for motivating teams to deliver proven results and fostering strong customer relationships. The original Military OneSource government plank holder and program manager, Mary has progressed with the program and beyond, managing cross-functional teams in the delivery of prevention and innovative web, outreach and communication solutions for all of the Department of Defense's military family community. A card-carrying member of the North American Strongman Association, Mary’s strengths extend beyond the workplace to the CrossFit and powerlifting arenas where she coaches athletes of all ages and holds the Virginia state squat record in her age and weight class.

Sarah Coon

Director of Creative Services

Fueled by great design (and great coffee!), Sarah Coon leads an award-winning creative team of multimedia designers and 508 compliance specialists. She oversees creative services for The Bowen Group across contracts and for The Bowen Group brand. Sarah Coon holds a bachelor’s degree from George Mason University and has more than 15 years of professional experience in design. Sarah is a member of AIGA - the association for design and User Experience Professionals Association.

Jay Senter

Director of Marine Corps Programs

Jay Senter retired from the military after 23 years as a Marine officer serving at the battalion, regiment and division staff level and various Headquarters Marine Corps positions. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from the University of Oklahoma, as well as a Master of Science degree in Information Technology Management from the Naval Postgraduate School. As the director of Marine Corps programs, he is primarily responsible of operational management and execution of the portfolio of contracts in five states and the District of Columbia that provide transition support to wounded, ill and injured Marines and sailors. He is a dog lover, and currently has four dogs, including two Great Danes.
